Hello again Orinsekwans

This blog has been idle for too long - still seems like a good way to keep in some contact, do some sharing, etc. etc.
And if you're new here - go to the link provided for many photos going all the way back to the first year of Camp Orinsekwa - 1927.
Still such positive memories & thoughts about the reunion during the summer of '08. Thanks so much to those who were able to attend, and to those who would have liked to have been there.

Remembering them

I'd like to add by brother, Steven Shoulberg, to those we could somehow remember from camp. Steven came to Orinsekwa in 1962 and stayed through the mid-1960s, becoming a counselor and a bit of an non-urban legend. Who else could throw Allen Davis' records into the woods, go shot for shot (punches, that is) with an ex-Marine, drive Dave Baron to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy, get chased through the dining hall by Tom the cook, hold the boys waterfront motionless for hours as he considered jumping off the high diving board, convince the entire camp that he was being drafted into the army and having a gala going away party thrown in his honor and meet his future wife, Linda Weiss, to boot?
Steven and Linda had three kids and lived in Florida. He went into hospital administration but his heart always was someplace else, perhaps in Niverville. He died in 2000, that great big wonderful heart of his finally giving out.
I'd like to remember Steven on the hill in front of bunk 18, looking out at the camp, which for a very brief time, was his.

Thanks Richard

What a wonderful suggestion! I know I will contribute at least a c-note if not double that. To be fair and politically correct, we should find out whether there been any other untimely or tragic deaths of alumni that should be honored along with June. Anyone know?

June Eberlin

 i recently found some letters
written to my parents and saved
 from orinsekwa circa 1966.
in thinking about the camp; and
those i remember; i thought of June.
perhaps a way to honor her and remember
might be for our group to sponsor a young
person whom otherwise could not afford
 that summer camp experience.
i know that camp echo lake in warrensburg n.y.
for twenty five years has had a program
where fifty five boys and girls get a scholarship
for-- one-- unforgettable week, to a lake and sports
and crafts that might be beyond their reach
 otherwise.
as our contact list grows and more people
connect; perhaps it might be possible to
reach out to make something special happen
for someone and honor and remember June
 in that gift.
